No relay error guys! I really did miss mate in two (Rc1+) – at least now I know who the stars of my future nightmares will be 🙂

There’s an interview with GM Robert Fontaine at the France-based chess site Europe Echecs.

Very exciting game today between you and Magnus. He outfoxed you in the opening and probably thought it would be an easy win. Doubling the rooks on the 2nd rank was a clever way to secure the draw, in spite of him having more material.

That you on top of that had mate in 2 – and neither of you two saw it! – is just incredible.
How many seconds did you have left when you played 39… Rhxd2?

Anyway, it’s just rapid. Looking forward to 2nd game day tomorrow!

NRK are doing the best web cam job I have ever seen, with several cameras and professional mixing and zooming. It’s a pleassure to watch.

PS: It’s better to apply the RSS Feed feature to all new blog entries (from you), rather than “this comment” only.

39…Tc1 wasn’t mate in two, instead “only” winning a rook and a bishop.

IT was not mate in 2. Rook goes in between and then bishop. Then Rh1+ and bishop goes away too, but no immediate mate.

GM Hammer, your sportsmanship attitude is nothing short of admirable! Don’t let this mistake ruin your achievement, you might have lost the game but won a new fan!

GM Hammer, I agree with . I too am equally impressed by your sportsmanship, as well as your excellent grasp of the English language. Your positive attitude is also a wonderful thing to see. I wish you the best, and hope you continue to work your way amongst the GM elite.

Almost a draw against Anand, missing a win against Carlsen, and a good game against Polgar.

    This was exciting to follow!

Yeah, I’m very happy myself! Now if I could just exploit the chances I’m given – that’d be swell 🙂
