Here’s a challenge for you! Can you match the wits of the Norwegian young guns? Underneath are the two most difficult puzzles from this weekend!

White to move. What should he play, and what is the evaluation?

White to play. Same questions!

The first one was too tough for everybody, so here’s your chance to best the youngsters! However, they might get their payback on the second one, as they solved it very convincingly! I’ll post the answers at some later stage.

I think in the first puzzle 1.Kd2 and if 1…Nc6 2.Bf3 Nxa5 then 3.Kc3 traps a stallion for later harvesting. After 1…Kf6 2.Kc3 Ke6 3.Bxa6 preparing a runaway so 3…Nc6 but now unfortunately the Black King is on e6! 4.Bc4+ and keeps the runaway. Looks like White wins it.

The second puzzle was easy for me to solve because I’ve just been writing on the idea of domination. So 1.Rh8 Kg7 2.Kg5!!

Was the first puzzle from one of your games?
