Summer fever
There comes a point in every winter, when you start thinking “Gosh, I wish it wasn’t freezing!” It is for that reason the sale of sunny destinations peak in January – or so I would guess. This also applies for Norse chess masters. While Magnus does vacation-style in Mexico, I try to combine it with excellent chess tournaments. As it so happens, I just added two fantastic (warm and sunny) destinations to my schedule!
Destination #1! Dubai – which seems to me to have summer all year round! In April, it hosts the Dubai Open. Fun facts: Dubai has a mean temperature of 27 degrees in April, and BBC Weather states that the discomfort from the heat is “high”!

Destination #2: Corfu, Greece! Greece is one of the most active chess organizing countries in the world, but it’s usually always Crete that hosts us. While I love Crete, some diversity is most welcome, and when I got an opportunity to go to Corfu – well, let’s just say it was an easy decision! The festivities will be hosted in the magnificent Marbella resort. In addition to rapid chess, the Cultural Festival includes many other games as well, such as Chinese chess and bridge. It’s going to be a lot of fun, and a great way to start the summer!
